Butcher's revolutionized the floor care industry in America well over a century ago. At that time, the first Charles Butcher was a craftsman who installed intricate parquet wood floors in many of the grand homes in Boston. He also made a paste wax that he used to finish his floors. His wax, "Boston Polish," became quite popular and in 1880, he made the manufacture and sales of paste wax his only business. Boston Polish and its sister product, White Diamond Bowling Alley Paste Wax, are still sold through the Butcher's Retail Division and are available in hardware stores across the country. In early 1950, Butcher's broadened its focus to become the industry leader it is today.
Butcher's manufacturing is done at Waxdale in Racine, WI. Waxdale is the largest automated floor finish production plant in North America.
