Microfiltration is the process by which bacteria or macromolecules are removed from a feedstock. The main examples of this process are as follows:-
• Removal of bacteria for ‘extended shelf life’ liquid drinking milk e.g. Cravendale PureFilter • Removal of bacteria from skim milk to make nitrate-free cheeses • Removal of bacteria from whey • Removal of bacteria from brine • Removal of fat from whey intended for whey protein concentrate (WPC) and for protein fractionation |
